Architect of eihbank’s headquarters in Hamburg, Gottfried Leo Böhm, passed away
German architect and sculptor Gottfried Leo Böhm died in Cologne on June 9, 2021 at the age of 101. He was considered a major modernist architect and an exceptional figure in German post-war architecture. In 1986 he was awarded the internationally renowned Pritzker Prize for his works.
The headquarters of Europäisch-Iranische Handelsbank AG in the immediate vicinity of the famous Chilehaus was in 1991 his first architectural work in Hamburg. The bank building blends in harmoniously with the ensemble of historic red brick office buildings in Hamburg’s Kontorhausviertel, which, together with the warehouse district opposite in the Port of Hamburg, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015.
